2009 marked the financial troubles for one of cinema’s leading production companies; one that was the foundation for the James Bond movie franchise. At this time 007 had an extremely uncertain future and had Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) not recovered, the Bond series would have been left on very bad terms. Quantum of Solace was disappointingly average, unlike Daniel Craig’s first outing in Casino Royale which made way for a new and modern era of Bond films. Obviously MGM managed to pull back, surviving their financial difficulties, but if Skyfall fails to impress its harsh critics, do they stand a chance to continue making these films?
Although no official plot has been outlined for Skyfall, by watching the trailer we can easily interprut that MI6 is under threat, Bond has turned into even more of a rebellious figure and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) looks like he is going to be one hell of an amazing villain. Judi Dench makes her usual appearance as ‘M’ while Ben Wishaw (Layer Cake) is introduced as the new gadget mastermind that is ‘Q’. Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe will be known as the seductive “Bond girls” this time round while Ralph Fiennes will take on the role as a high up member of Mi6. A well established cast that will hopefully produce a brilliant 007 film.
Scenes of ultra modern high rise apartments and derailed trains will make for an exciting mission similar to Casino Royale. They’ll likely throw in a lot of Bond iconography that is loved by many to bring James Bond back to his ground roots; the martinis, the girls, the guns and the subtle humour. A soundtrack performed by none other than the award winning Adele will/should neatly tie the film together. So let’s hope Skyfall has enough in it to reignite 007′s reputation.
